There are endless adventurous toys and games for kids out there, we have rounded up the BEST gadgets and gear for kids who love camping, hiking, and exploring outside. This parent and kid-approved holiday wish list will keep everyone safe and smiling during your family adventures.
Stocking Stuffers for Adventurous Kids
Badger Balm Lip Balm (SPF 15)– Kids love having their own “stuff”. Parents love the clean ingredients and SPF protection. We have used Badger Balm for years and this lip balm is a staple around here.
Unicorn Horn Sidewalk Chalk– These unicorn horns are super fun for magical sidewalk drawings. Individually wrapped, you can tuck a few into your kiddo’s stocking and squirrel away the rest for spring.
Headlamps– A great purchase for camping but we use these for reading “lamps”, looking for lost toys under couches at home, etc. If your kid is always borrowing yours, it may be time for one of their own.
Minishades Sunglasses– 100% UV protection and a warranty that covers damage AND loss? This one is a no-brainer and clearly, a company whose founders have kids. Available in several different sizes.
Gear and Experience Gift Ideas for Adventurous Kids
Walkie-Talkies – Fun and highly functional when backcountry exploring. These aren’t’ a kids model but are holding up much better for not much bigger of a price tag!
Insulated water bottle– As your toddler upgrades to a bigger cup, this one is our favorite for easy clean and keeping drinks hot/cold. Lids and straw are dishwasher safe.
REI Kids’ Fleece- A lightweight fleece that layers nicely and doesn’t get too hot, a perfect winter mid-layer for outdoor adventures for growing kids.
Return by Aaron Becker– A delightful end to Becker’s wordless trilogy, these books (including Journey and Quest) are a BIG hit in our house. We recommend the hardback copies for years of reading over and over.
Botanic Garden Membership– Botanic Gardens are the perfect local family adventure. An annual membership to the local garden is a perfect experience gift for the kids.
National Park Membership– An annual membership at just $80 gets the whole family access to parks and recreational land all across the US. If your kiddo is in 4th grade, be sure you are getting your free family pass! And of course, do take advantage of the Junior Ranger Program while you are at it!
